Now Another Fee: Pay Toilets
European Airline to Charge for Restroom Usage
Ryanair, which is based in Dublin, Ireland, is mulling a plan that would require travelers to pay either 1 euro or 1 British pound (about $1.33 or $1.52) for using the bathroom on flights lasting one hour or less.
The plan, titled “Ryanair Cost Saving Proposal,” was published in the airline’s inflight magazine.
A Ryanair official tells the British newspaper “The Daily Mail” the carrier hopes the toilet fee will change customers’ habits. “By charging for the toilets we are hoping to change passenger behavior so that they use the bathroom before or after the flight,” Ryanair spokesman Stephen McNamara tells the paper. “That will enable us to remove two out of three of the toilets and make way for at least six extra seats.”
